Come for a Cozy Craft on Feb. 15 12-3PM – Thrummed Mitten Workshop

Join me for a hands-on workshop where you’ll learn the art of crafting traditional thrummed mittens! Perfect for beginners and experienced knitters alike, this class will guide you step-by-step in creating these warm, fluffy mittens lined with wooly thrums—ideal for keeping fingers toasty on the coldest days.

You’ll learn:

  • How to prepare and insert thrums for a soft, insulating interior.
  • Techniques for knitting a mitten pattern, including shaping the thumb.
  • Tips for choosing the best yarn and wool for your project.
Thrummed Mitten Workshop

A selection of colorful wool for thrumming, a written pattern and expert instruction are included. I’ll send a supply list and homework when you enroll. You’ll leave with one almost completed mitten and the skills to finish the second at home.

Crystal Tree Workshop

Come spend a relaxing day creating a family heirloom – a lighted Christmas tree.

In this full day workshop on November 10th 1:00-5:00PM, you will receive all the supplies and instructions necessary to make a beautiful seasonal decoration worthy of gifting or keeping for yourself.

Workshop size is limited in order to allow for the best experience for all. The workshop, including supplies, is $90.

This new class from 6:30 to 8:30 is designed for both the beginning knitter/crocheter and experienced knitter/crocheter looking for expert help with specific projects. Come to a supportive environment for learning knitting skills and guidance for successful completion for your project. The monthly session are 2 hour class blocks per week for 4 weeks.

Embroidery Workshop

Come enjoy the relaxing and contemplative art of hand embroidery with Donna Stearns.

During the 3-week class you’ll master embroidery basics:

  • Proper technique
  • Types of fabric
  • Embroidery floss and its characteristics
  • Required needles and tools

If you are new to stitching, Donna will introduce you to the basics, giving you all you need to be successful. For the experienced stitcher, she will help advance your skills so you can achieve your stitching goals.  She hopes to inspire all students with the confidence to make stitching a part of your creative life.

Additionally, the class will discuss slow stitching, visible mending, sashiko, boro stitching, kantha, and other forms of hand embroidery.

March 12, 19, and 26, 10 am-12 noon (snow date April 2, if needed)

$100 (includes embroidery supplies)

Participants should bring small scissors, a mechanical pencil, a thimble if desired, and an enthusiasm for learning new skills.

Donna’s love of needlework began as a teen embroidering her jeans and those of her friends. For 35 years, her work as a quilt maker was exhibited in juried quilt shows at both the local and national level. Donna became an avid knitter 10 years ago. In addition to taking classes in embroidery, knitting and quilting, she also has taken classes in book binding and mixed media.

Sit ‘n Stitch Plus

You’ll want to be there!

We’ll cover gauge in the third Sit ‘n Stitch Plus Saturday, April 10. Not just the same old things you’ve heard many times, but a deeper exploration into what happens once your project gets underway. 

Sit ‘n Stitch Plus is an enhanced social gathering. While you knit/crochet and relax, I’ll give a talk/lecture/demonstration for a portion of the time, delving further into a fibery topic!

Nantucket Cranberry Wreath Workshop

Join Heathknits for a fun day full of holiday cheer, as we create our own Nantucket Cranberry Wreaths!

The wreathes are considered the most celebrated house decoration on Nantucket. It’s a festive way to welcome guests to our homes for the holidays, no matter where we live.

Our workshop leader, Chris has been making cranberry wreaths for the past 40 years when her beloved mother-in-law moved to the Cape and showed her the secrets of this Nantucket tradition.
